2002 Report
The Deer Trail Mine, located five (5) miles south of Marysvale, Utah, is a
historic producer of gold, silver, lead and zinc. The mine consists of three main
areas of mineralization. The original discovery Deer Trail Gold Mine, the 8600
and 3400 Areas of the PTH Tunnel. The old workings produced 148,000 tons of highly
oxidized ore which averaged 1.38 opt Au, 11.49 opt Ag, and 3.26% Pb. The 8600
Area of the PTH Tunnel produced well over 100,000 tons averaging 0.10 opt Au,
15 opt Ag, 5% Pb, and 12% Zn. The 3400 Area of the PTH Tunnel produced 5,000 tons
averaging 0.19 opt Au, 15.17 opt Ag, 2.845 Pb, and 6.26% Zn. UNICO has focused
its efforts in identifying and developing mineralization that can achieve near-term
production. Although good ore is known to exist in the 8600 Area of the PTH Tunnel,
it has been determined that logistics of developing this area of the mine are
not favorable and that near-term production would not be possible under current
conditions. Recent discoveries of high-grade mineralization within the 3400 Area
of the PTH Tunnel have proven to be favorable to near-term cost effect production.
Initial samples taken in the “34 East” area were very encouraging
averaging 0.18 opt Au, 30 opt Ag, 3% Pb, and 6% Zn. Continued development of “34
East” uncovered mineralization averaging 0.398 opt Au, 41.1 opt Ag, 6.7%
Pb, 6.4% Zn and 1.4% Cu. Raising on the manto mineralization encountered a fault
that juxtaposed the latter mineralization onto mineralization that has been averaging
1.6 opt Au, 180 opt Ag, 14.4% Pb, 8.39% Zn and 8.66% Cu. Approximately 2000 tons
of ore has been produced from “34East” which is being stockpiled.
The contained mineralized resources in the 3400 Area include a 30,000 ton proven
and probable drill-indicated block confirmed by two major mining companies in
the early 1980’s. The resource also includes a projected 120,000 ton block
in the “34 East” southwesterly trending manto mineralization, an inferred
block of + 1M tons in the northwesterly dipping Callville Limestone associated
with the Deer Trail Anticline mineralization.
The 8600 Area has an inferred block of 496,000 tons of massive sulfides along
the northwesterly extension of the Red Fissure. The above resource is based on
the two known mineralizing fissures. Other fissures are undoubtedly present inside
Deer Trail Mountain, and should increase the potential several fold. Mineralization
was discovered on the east flank of the Deer Trail Anticline north of the 8600
Area on the PTH level that assays 7.0 opt Ag. This block projects up dip in the
Toroweap formation and was encountered in the old original workings, however was
considered too low grade at the time to mine. This block contains an estimated
60,000 tons. This mineralization presumably extends down dip as well.
The resource of the original mine consists of areas of lower grade gold and
silver mineralization left behind by the past producers dating back to 1890. This
ore is the rind of old stopes and many ore pillars left behind which account for
several thousand tons. In addition the old tailings contain 186,000 tons averaging
0.04 opt Au, 3.6 opt Ag with some lead. The old dumps contain approximately 120,000
tons with values in gold, silver, and lead that can easily be up-graded by screening.
